These past few days have really been a blur for me. So much has gone on and I have been busy chasing the little guy during the day and exhausted and getting up with him all night. And even though there has been much to blog about I just have not had the energy.
Let me start by saying this-
Waiting for your child to crawl before baby proofing the house (especially one with a decent sized flight of stairs) is quite possibly one of the DUMBEST moves ever to be made by first time parents. Especially since babies move quickly and stealthily and are magnets for trouble.
{*Lesson Learned*}
Much better.
In addition to the craziness that resulted from our lack of planning in the child proofing department, little man must have been doing some serious teething this weekend. Instead of his usual peaceful, 11 hour a night slumbers he was ornery and slept fitfully, waking several times throughout the night (only to be consoled by sleeping in mommy's arms). And if the un-baby proofed house, ornery teething baby, and resulting seriously sleep deprived mommy wasn't enough-daddy was out of town for a long weekend. Like I said, a blur.
ANYWAY...
We were finally able to have the safety gates installed yesterday as well as some other nifty little baby proofing gadgets. I'm still not entirely comfortable that I've taken care of everything that could possibly pose a problem. But I got some sage advice from a friend and father of 4 on the topic- "just follow the little guy around for the day, he will lead you to everything you need to take care of. Kids are drawn like magnets to potential hazards." Well said. Now you know what I'll be doing this week.
The safety gates are a godsend, Cam has become an EXPERT crawler. He now follows me around from room to room and when he's bored, he leaves and finds something more entertaining then mom. He seems to really love this bit of freedom and I love watching his tiny butt wiggle as he crawls away from me or the big smiles and peals of laughter as he crawls toward me when I call him. And crawling doesn't seem to be enough for him anymore. Now he is trying to pull up on everything too. This scares me because Cam has yet to determine the things that are strong or stationary enough to support him from the things that will hurt him. It's really enough to make me want to empty every single piece of furniture out of the house... But instead I watch him closely and try to show him the difference, as well as hold out my own hands for him practice.
His newly acquired skills have also turned his crib into quite the jungle gym. He does this nifty little rolling, flippity-floppity move that gets him from laying on his back to sitting straight up. This is usually followed up by crawling over to the side of the crib and rattling the bars and pulling up onto his feet. Yea-STANDING UP ON HIS FEET. Ridiculous. It freaked me out completely the first time I saw it.
Everyone told me that life as I knew it was over once Cam learned how to crawl. Boy were they ever right.
I feel like I covered a lot of ground in this post but at the same time I still missed things. I'm off to bed and hoping for a good night's sleep tonight and a more peaceful week here in Crazytown. We shall see...
