Reading with Daddy

It was a lazy Sunday afternoon around the compound today. The hubs and I joked that we don't do much or have any sort of social life these days. But we both agreed that we enjoy hanging out together doing nothing as a family more then we have ever enjoyed doing anything. So in the last hours of the weekend, we went out for a bit to browse the bookstore and then spent the rest of the day lounging around. Cam got in a lot of playtime with Daddy. I really love watching them together, Daddy is always finding a new way to make Cam laugh or trying to snuggle him just right to get one of his famous hugs.

The hubs bought Cam a new Curious George book and I got some pictures as they "read" it together. I say "read" because reading with Cam is more of an involved process these days. Here's how it goes.

First he must taste the new book. This requires lots of chomping, licking, and drooling on it from every possible angle. You know it's safe to proceed only if he turns a page...

This one passed the test. Although from the look on his face he still seems skeptical.

Cam is still clutching the book tightly as he gives Daddy his final review. Must have been quite a good read!

There is really no better way to spend your weekend then with the two people you love the most reading and snuggling and playing together.

the best.

It's New Food Day!

So every Saturday is otherwise known around here as New Food Day-YAY!!!! Cam tries something new and mommy and daddy watch excitedly for his reaction. As new parents, the hubs and I had no idea what to expect from Cam when he started to eat solids. We had heard all sorts of tales about gagging and choking and spitting and the like. The typical reactions you would expect to pureed pasty veggies. So naturally we anticipated something along those lines. Nope. Not Cam. My boy LOVES food. He excitedly slurps up whatever is on that spoon and gets near his mouth. Even last week when we tried peas. He wasn't enthused but he took it like a pro. Although we did catch a slight shudder around the third bite... So anyway, by this time we have been through several new foods with pretty much the same reaction to everything. This week was sweet potatoes. I baked them last night and tasted a few bites before pureeing them up. They were so sweet and delicious. The hubs and I were certain they would be like "baby candy" to him. Especially after a week of peas. Here are the highlights.

First bite.

He loved it of course. And was all like "keep it coming Dad!"
Then we went on to the oatmeal. Which he eats daily, with every meal.

"No thanks Dad, I'm good on the oatmeal. I'll just have some more of that sweet stuff."

Still we continued on with the oatmeal. We know he loves it. Sweet potatoes are good and all but the boy likes his oatmeal.

This pretty much sums up his feelings on oatmeal today. We knew he would love sweet potatoes-but seriously?

New food day is the best.

best

don't you just want to pinch those cheeks???!!

little man in his chair

This chair was a gift from my Mom for my baby shower. Thanks Mom! We call it the little man chair, isn't it fabulous? It is one of our favorite spots for a photo op and Cam thoroughly enjoys hanging out in it. He is still ironing out the kinks of the whole business of sitting, but check him out lounging... Looks comfy doesn't he?

hugs

Cam has spent the last week or so perfecting the art of the hug. Funny enough it started shortly after Valentine's Day when I noticed he was hanging on to me a bit differently when I picked him up. Normally he flails his entire body back and forth and waves his arms around like he is getting ready for takeoff and I hold on to him for dear life for fear he flies out of my arms. This new move he had involved tightly holding one hand around my neck and gripping my shoulder with the other. I could sense this was the beginning of something great.

So to get things moving, each time I picked him up I would try snuggle him in and show him how it's done. It didn't take him long to figure it out, boy genius that he is.

Cam has now mastered the hug. He owns the hug. When I pick him up he throws his arms around me and holds on for dear life. Perfect hug.

As if learning to give the perfect hug wasn't enough, Cam sometimes likes to have a little fun. While I'm hugging him he has these little "conversations" with himself. It's sort of a very soft warbling noise that he makes. He almost sounds like a little bird. And he only does this when he's totally relaxed and in my arms. It is so freakin adorable.

And just this week he has started to reach up his arms to me when he is in his exersaucer or jumparoo and he sees me approaching. I mean how cute is this?????!!!! It's as if he's saying "come on mom give me a hug!" And I am powerless.

Needless to say I love hugs. They are the best.

sweet.

This little spot.

I kiss it a jillion times a day. I love it. Cam loves it. That's all.

The Beginning

I keep finding myself lately trying to memorize my days. They are very ordinary looking on the outside, but on the inside they are amazing. Well to me at least. Right now I am a stay at home mom which means that I am lucky enough to spend every minute of every day with my fabulous little boy! And so I get to see some pretty great stuff on a daily basis, stuff that I want to burn into my brain so I can remember it forever and always. This little space of mine will be dedicated to just that. Cameron is six months old today, so I thought it would be a great time to start this blog where I can rant and rave about him all I want!

So here it is. My sweetest and my best.

my boy. he rocks.
