Fierce

10

These months are moving by faster then I ever could have imagined! And every month Cam gets more huggy and squeezy and deliciously cute while at the same time becoming more of a little boy and less of a little baby. Watching him grow and change and learn is nothing short of amazing to me. So in honor of 10 months, here are 10 of his latest tricks that I so adore.

10. He rips off his bib and defiantly tosses it to the floor. He no longer sees the need for a it. I mean why bother to have clean clothes when you can wear them with designs made from things like mashed up peas or squished pastina all over them right?

9. He drinks from a sippy cup on his own. Sort of, when he feels like it, which is a lot these days. I thought he would continue to have me hold it for him oh for like ever I guess. You know, so he could quench his thirst while he played toys or pulled my hair or anything else more fun then holding a cup for that matter.

8. He gets crazy for the duck. When he sees me pull that inflatable tub out for bath time he gets totally crazy nuts. He laughs and shrieks and smiles and waves his hands in the air the whole entire time until he gets in it. Not to mention the thrill he gets when I squeeze that duck's beak to make it quack...

7. He nibbles. On my knees. Daily. Or tries to at least. And he's totally stealth about it too. We will be on the floor playing toys and I get distracted maybe with a phone call or building a block tower or something. When all of a sudden I look down and he is leaned over and trying to bite my knee. Crazy. When I catch him he licks instead, acting all innocent about it, as if his intentions were not of the toothy variety.

6. His already boyish sense of humor. Just this week he started laughing when he toots. Yeah they are funny for him but for the rest of us, not so much...

5. He grunts. He uses grunts like noisy little exclamation points to add emphasis to his vocal outbursts. Be it ecstatic peals of laughter or screams of protest or hysterical giggles, he adds a few grunts in here for good measure.

4. He holds on. Like a little monkey when I carry him. Arms and legs twisted and tucked in as tightly as he can get them. Hanging off of mommy is the place to be.

3. He gives a mean stink eye. This typically occurs when we are waiting in checkout lines. He lures people in with that "i am an oh so adorable baby look at me" thing. This prompts some combo of a smile, a wave and or a compliment from the friendly person in line behind us. Occasionally he smiles back, if the approach was up to his standards, but most of the time he gives an icy cold stare. Which of course takes them all by surprise while simultaneously cracking me up.

2. He sticks his tongue out. When he's really happy and smiling. It's priceless, really.

1. He tries to kiss me. And I understand when he wants to do it! It's just this look he gets in his eyes and then he leans in with his mouth open. Sort of like a mini shark attack type thing. Then he tries to plant one on me. He doesn't have it quite down yet, but he's working on it. And I let him give me wet, slobbery kisses whenever he wants. They are the best.

I love my little man more than monkeys love bananas and we all know that's an awful lot.

Pictures in Pictures

We spent a quiet day together celebrating the Hubs' first Father's Day. Of course I snapped some photos of my two favorite guys spending time with each other today. When I sat down to take a look at them tonight it struck me that each picture held in it something more than just what met the eye.

In honor of Father's Day, my picture within the picture view of today.

Here we see father and son hanging out enjoying some play time and some golf on tv. This Dad loves spending all of his free time hanging out with the little man. No leisure time activity can lure Dad away from a pile of toys, a walk around the neighborhood or even a dreaded poopy diaper!

I also see a man who truly values his family, to him nothing is more important.

And here you can see Dad and the little man engaged in a fierce round of tickling. Dad is always looking for new ways to envoke a good belly laugh. Cam obviously enjoys all of Dad's love and attention.

I also see a man who never forgets to let his loved ones know how much he cares. He is never afraid to show them signs of his love and affection.

Lastly we catch Cam and Dad as they take a break, lay back and relax for a minute. They spend some time that way talking to each other. Cam listens closely to everything Dad has to say.

I also see a man who looks at his son absolutely beaming with pride. Teaching him the ways to be the best he can be right from the start.

Happy Father's Day to the man I love-best Dad in all the land!

sleep is for suckers

It's 10:45pm. Why go to sleep when I can stay up watching video of the little man eating puffs and trying not to crawl? I don't do that all day long or anything.

I can't get enough. YouTube is my friend tonight.

Strange

I had to run out to the grocery store tonight. Something I never do anymore. Grocery shopping is always something I do during the day with Cam. And when I walked in, the store just felt weird. It looked weird. I couldn't really put my finger on it. Like kind of creepy or eerie or something. Maybe it's because it was night time. Maybe because it was kind of quiet and empty in there. I don't know. But I think it's because my little guy wasn't there with me. I missed him. At night, in the grocery store, missed him.

The Story of Puffs

They make these cute little things for babies that look like some sort of cereal but are really melt in your mouth vegetable or fruit based "puffs". Name of the game with these puffs is get your baby learning to eat using their fingers (aka finger feeding in baby world) while using a food that doesn't pose a major choking hazard.

So I bought some of these puffs for the little man in the sweet potato variety to get him started. For the past few weeks I have been putting them out on his tray at meal times. So he could start exploring and get the hang of this finger feeding business...

It's taken some time for him to figure out precisely what a puff is and how it fits into his world. At first he was all like " Puffs are fun to swat and smash and throw on the ground!" Then somewhere along the line, the inevitable happened and he got one near enough to his mouth to get a lick. Well of course this led to the discovery that puffs were definitely not meant to be swatted and smashed and thrown to the ground. No, these puffs were sweet and delicious! Perfect little meal time treats! From that point on it became a quest to get these puffs into his mouth.

This was no easy feat. Puffs proved to be quite rascally. They sometimes stuck to his fingers and they sometimes slipped off his fingers. Sometimes he could just about get them almost just close enough to his mouth but not quite. Sometimes he could get them in his hair and sometimes he could get them stuck down his shirt. But he could not seem to get them stuck in his mouth. How irritating!!!!

But Cam kept after it. And then, this past Saturday, things changed.

It happened seemingly out of the blue. One minute the puff was on the tray and the next it was right where he wanted it. Little man just zeroed in on his target, grabbed it up and straight into his mouth it went! A bit of gum mashing and a few chews (which are the cutest things ever to see) and it was all over. So exciting!

And now he will eat puffs as fast as those little fingers can get them in his mouth. I have to keep telling him to slow down and eat only one at a time! You could just see how thrilled he was to be doing this all on his own. It's amazing.

Puffs, who knew.

Pic of the Day

This Afternoon

We spent yet another beautiful afternoon on our blanket in the park. It was one of those days that just makes you want to sit outside and smell the crisp breeze while the sun is shining on your face. And the two of us did just that. I brought along a few books and toys but we didn't really need them. We entertained each other. Cam had fun rolling around on the blanket and touching his feet on and off of the grass (which he hated yesterday but was enjoying today). We laid on our backs and looked up at the clouds. I don't really know if he understood what I was pointing at or if he just liked watching my finger trace shapes in the air. We listened to birds and watched them fly in and out of the nearby trees. Then we hit the swings. Cam loved sitting on my lap and swinging. And I forgot how much I liked the swings myself.

It is days like today that keep me grounded in the realization of how fortunate I am to have this time at home with Cam. I make an effort each day to worry less about the to do lists and household chores and focus more on enjoying our time together, doing fun things and making memories with him. I know that the laundry and the cleaning will be there forever but my little boy is growing up fast...

Taking a look

Since the weather was gorgeous this afternoon,we headed for the neighborhood park to relax and take in the sights.
Cam peeks over the blanket to get a better look at the grass. After realizing its a bit prickly he wanted nothing to do with it. So we stayed on the blanket, it was safe...
