Skills
Of all the things Cam has ever been interested in, blocks were never one of them. Until today that is. Funny how it seems like such a small thing but it was the first time he had ever attempted to stack blocks and I caught myself smiling and holding my breath watching as he built his very first tiny structures.

This is the face of a little boy who made an informed decision this morning. Upon receiving his second half of a toast and jam sandwich and upon sniffing and thoroughly inspecting said sandwich to identify the flavor of said jam (which was strawberry and not raspberry like the first half sandwich) it was determined to be against his liking. In order to be made privy to his decision, I had to follow him into the kitchen where I watched as he promptly deposited the offending sandwich right into the trash can.

Smart Cookie
I ran outside to clear the front step of some ice this afternoon and little man stood just inside on the other side of the glass storm door to watch. As I came back in he started running all around the house screeching and chattering. I watched him scurry into the kitchen and reach desperately into my non injury threatening utensil drawer and pull out a spatula. Spatula in hand he raced to the front door grabbing at his snow boots and pointing at the door. I sat there puzzled. Then it hit me, he was ready to head out and shovel more snow.
I guess this is to be expected when you arm your child with a pink plastic serving spoon to go out and play in the snow...

More Snow!!
Armed with mama's fingerless gloves and his trusty pink spoon, Cam is ready to help shovel the walk.

Little Mr. I Want What I Want
Did not want his picture taken today, did not want to take a nap today and did not feel like eating much today. However he did want to read lots of books, he did want to eat lots of pretzels and he did want to sit on my lap and play Talking Carl on my phone...

For the Love of Swine
Olivia made her way home with us from the bookstore today. Once Cam had her in his clutches he wasn't letting go...
Dinner Time Smiles
He's smiling at his Daddy, who patiently spent dinner time playing crazy games with the little man to keep him interested in eating.

catching up!
In the way that I have been devoting my days to the fast and fun filled ways of a toddler I have been devoting my nights to the weary and dog tired ways of a toddler's mama. As a result my attentions to blogging about all of this toddlerly goodness have been neglected...
And even though it's past my bedtime, the Steelers's victory tonight has me quite excited so I'm putting the energy burst to good use. In an effort to get mysweetest back to up to speed, here are what I think to be the highlights of the past few weeks.
Crawling up the steps is for babies. Cam now walks up, always with a helping hand, but he is getting better and better each day. Now we are trying to teach him how to scoot down on his coolie-not going so well, he just thinks it's funny.
Meal times are no longer for the faint of heart. Cam has developed an extremely picky palate. He gives every single morsel of food that crosses his path the sniff test before either popping it in his mouth or tossing it on the floor. Food flinging has almost become sport... On the flip side his skills with a fork and spoon are coming along quite splendidly. Nothing makes him happier then sloppily spooning up some applesauce. However, his absolute refusal to wear a bib is leading him to several wardrobe changes through out the day which does not make him so happy.
Words, words, words!!! He learns new words by the day. Some are more difficult to decipher than others but he works at them and uses them and I hear the progression of things like "fow" (cam speak for flower) to "fower". He is really starting to use the second syllable in his more familiar words.
I know I have posted some pictures of Cam with his flashcards, because he spends so much time playing with them. He gravitates toward certain cards and is now making the associations with the pictures on the cards to objects in his world. He will seek out the pig flashcard and bring it to me along with his toy pig or his lamb flashcard and bring it to me with his toy lamb.
Favorite things. Cam has a few random things that he is fascinated with. Pigs, triangles and stars. He can pick out any of those 3 things almost anywhere. I mean he will bring me a book or a piece of paper he picked up or a box he swiped out of the pantry and point out a teeny tiny star or triangle or pig somewhere on it that no one else would ever have noticed and excitedly point it out. It's nuts.
Speaking of the pantry, Cam now peruses ours whenever the mood strikes him and at any given time of the day may walk out with anything from a fruit bar to a bag of croutons demanding to be fed. It's completely ridiculous.
Books, books, books!!! Cam spends most of his days reading books. I cannot even put into words the feelings of happiness that overcome me when I see him sitting on the floor amidst a pile of books and flipping the pages while "reading" aloud to himself. Or watching him try to drag a book up into his little man chair. It is hysterical. This is not as easy as it would sound, he slides down, tumbles over and falls off about 4-5 times before he gets into the right spot.
5 words. The boy loves to dance. It is hysterical. He will dance to anything sounding remotely musical. Enough said.
And with that, I will try to start this new week with a renewed dedication to get back to my most regular posting of daily fun and happenings...

Gear Up
Since the sun was shining today and the little man loves the outdoors, I decided we would head to the park for a bit this afternoon. Boy did he love it!!! So did I- it was so peaceful having the entire playground to ourselves, and very surreal. We snuggled up and shared a good long swing, explored the patches of snow, and climbed around on the dinosaurs and the slides. When Cam decided he was through, he headed out to the wide open area surrounding the park and together we walked. He felt that the terrain was a bit rough and therefore allowed me to hold his hand.... And so we walked and picked up twigs and chased leaves and watched our shadows together until our fingers got too cold.
I think we will do this more often! Hoping for a mild winter...

Enjoying the Sun
Cam shuffled all around the front yard this afternoon with this ridiculously large stick in hand. It was quite fun until he decided dashing to the street was the only thing worth doing...
